Keep Cobb Beautiful will host a free grant writing and garden planning workshop for educators and parents of Cobb County schools. This workshop is intended to assist schools apply for and receive funding for learning gardens in both public and private schools within the county.
“We have received tremendous financial support from corporate funders for this program,” said Elicia Fritsch, Education Committee co-chair and program developer. “Companies recognize the potential learning value that young children can gain from growing their own food and flowers.”
The Dig'n The Dirt program has received grants from Lockheed Aeronautics, Whole Foods Market at Merchants Walk, Edens & Avant, property developers, and Waste Management, Inc.
“Last year, twenty three Cobb Schools applied for grants, but Keep Cobb Beautiful could only fund six gardens,” Fritsch said. “This year, we hope to fund every school that applies.”
The free workshop will be held Tuesday, September 20 at The Gardens at Kennesaw Mountain from 5 PM to 7 PM. A light dinner will be served. The Gardens at Kennesaw Mountain is located at 1127 White Circle across from the Kennesaw National Battlefield Visitor's Center.
