Disguised Learning

According to Karen Hickmott, at Myers Action Institute, disguised learning means “the students have so much fun while learning they do not realize they are strengthening their academic skills.” Through the after-school and summer garden program offered to students in kindergarten through fifth grade, this 2010 grant winning program has made numerous topics relevant to their students by encouraging fun in the activities. The after-school program is lead by a site manager, two group leaders, two tutors and one teacher. During the school year, this program provides the students help with homework and tutoring along with lessons about nutrition. There are also opportunities for physical activity, arts and crafts, and music.
