Exhibitors with resources for environmental education (nonprofits, government agencies, facilities, etc) Networking for educators with gardens - this will be an informal opportunity for teachers to ask each other questions and exchange contact information for a support group.
Teachers may reserve the Starlab Planetariums to use at their schools during the school year. Reservations are completed on a first come first serve basis. Each Starlab costs $20,000.00. For this reason we only check out the starlabs to teachers who have completed a Starlabs Basics training course. For more information about Starlabs, click on the Starlabs Information link.
The science department is delighted to provide Cobb teachers with new science formative assessments for grades K-5. These assessments come from best selling NSTA Author, Page Keely's Uncovering Student Ideas in Science series.
The Uncovering Student Ideas in Science Assessment probes:
Each Uncovering Student Ideas in Science Assessment has been correlated to grade level standards. There are 10 each for K-2 and 25+ for each in 3-5. A complete list of assessment probes and grade level correlations is available. You may download it here: Download Science-Probes-Correlations-Cobb
The probes are available online on PICASSO in the assessment section of each corresponding unit outline.
We encourage teachers to use the probes in conjunction with their science notebooks and the C-E-R Framework, explained below. We want students thinking in terms of Claims, Evidence, and Reasoning. This framework supports Common Core standards and the new Next Generation Science standards that are on the horizon.
We will be offering additional trainings on how to use the science assessment probes in your classroom next year. Please be on the lookout for these opportunities in the fall and spring.

The Nongame Conservation Section of Georgia DNR's Wildlife Resources Division is offering a $1,000 grant to a third-, fourth-, or fifth-grade teacher who demonstrates exceptional energy and innovation in teaching life sciences. Georgia's nongame wildlife (animals not fished for or hunted and rare plants not harvested) should be used as the context for learning curriuculum standards. One teacher will be selected based on project design and how well the grant proposal questions are answered.
