Georgia Science Teacher’s Association (GSTA) Conference
GSTA is currently accepting proposals to present at this year’s conference in to be held in Atlanta on Feb. 17-19, 2011. Proposals to present are due on September 1, 2010. The science department will have a limited amount of funds to send teachers to the conference. You must be accepted to present at the conference to be eligible for these funds.
Action Required: Teachers should visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/gsta2011prop and apply to present at the GSTA conference.
PICASSO Resources Update
Benchmarks have been posted on PICASSO for quarter 1. The benchmarks underwent significant revisions over the spring and summer. Directions to access the Science online resources that came with our most recent science adoption are posted on PICASSO. These can be found to the right of the course guides for each grade level.
Georgia Science & Engineering Fair (GSEF)
The Cobb/Paulding Science & Engineering Fair will be held at Wheeler HS on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011. There were minimal changes to the rules from last year to this year. The GSEF coordinators are working to get forms and resources posted. In the meantime teachers may download and use the ISEF forms from http://www.societyforscience.org/isef/document. These are essentially the same exact documents used at GSEF. More information will be posted on the 6-12 Science BLOG.
Action Required: Teachers interested in having students participate in GSEF should visit the link above to access the required forms and information.
Science Consumable Funds & Hands-On Resources - (Middle Schools Only)
Schools will be receiving science consumable funds in September. Each school will receive approximately $1.00 per student in science consumable funds. More guidance and direction regarding the use of consumable funds will be forthcoming.
Seventh grade teachers will be receiving owl pellets as they have in the past. These are at the CCSD warehouse and will be shipped to schools within the next two weeks.
Action Required: Generate a list of necessary lab supplies to purchase with consumable funds. Be on the lookout for owl pellets for 7th grade teachers by the end of the month.
