Apply for GSTA Award!

Apply for a GSTA Award today!  The Georgia Science Teacher's Assocation has a number of award opportunities to recognize outstanding science teachers. 

Right now is the perfect time to be thinking of the wonderful lessons, labs, and experiments that would benefit your students.  Do you have the equipment or materials necessary to accomplish these goals?  If not, then you should consider applying for one of the GSTA’s mini-grants.  Teachers can earn up to $500.00 to fund classroom projects to enhance student understanding of the Georgia Performance Standards.  How cool would that be? 

Did you know that the GSTA conference is going to be in Atlanta this year?  School funds and pocketbooks are tight this year.  GSTA can help you get there.  Apply for our conference grant to pay your way.  For a full list of the many awards GSTA has to offer visit www.georgiascienceteacher.org.  The deadline to apply for awards is November 30, 2010.

Fun Educational Video on Weather & Hurricanes

How much does a hurricane weigh?  Do you know?  I didn't, but I do now!  Click on the link below and watch to an animated educational video from NPR that had me in stitches!  This is perfect to teach 4th grade weather or 5th grade destructive forces standards!  The weight and comparisons provide for a nice math integration too.

Nasa "Wake Up" Song Contest

There are only two space shuttle launches left! Would you like to start their days off on the right foot...tune? NASA is hosting two different contests. You can choose your favorite song (from a list of 40) for the next mission and/or compose a song for the final mission! National Chemistry Week

 National Chemistry Week is October 17-23. The Georgia Local Section of the ACS arranges several chemistry related events during that period. Attached is a letter detailing some of these events that will involve chemistry students in elementary, middle and high school. Can you please circulate this information to the chemistry/science teachers in your county. Please note the reply date of September 23^rd!!

Grant Opportunities

Dear Science Educators,

I get a lot of comments about folks wanting to attend conferences, win mini-grants, and such surrounding funding and grant opportunities. Well, here is a great list of 12 current opportunities for teachers and students K-College. There are A LOT here so please read through and pick a couple that you think you strongly qualify for.

These are so timely as many school systems are emphasizing STEM based curriculum this school year! Don’t forget that the NSTA National Conference is March 10–13, 2011in San Francisco, CA!  That’s an expensive trip and if you get one of these it would certainly make it easier to attend!  I hope this is helpful. Georgia Game Developers Expo in Atlanta

 

On behalf of the Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA), we welcome you and your students to attend the Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE) this fall 9/30/2010 through 10/3/2010.  The attached brochure describes some of the benefits for your students to learn more about game development and research universities in the metro Atlanta and Georgia area to help them pursue their dreams. 

There is a designated time of events from 9am-1pm on 10/1/2010 (Friday) that would be appropriate for a school field trip. Download the file below for more details.
